Homeland Museum Collection, which exists as a department of the Public Library “Detko Petrov” in Dimitrovgrad, was established in the early 1970s. The idea of collecting cultural heritage of this region originated with people working in cultural and education institutions. Together with their students, they were the first enthusiasts going around the territory of our municipality and collecting museum material.

Nowdays, the museum collection consists of 2000 objects, photographs and old documents which reflect on the past of the region.

The first findings which prove the existence of human communities dating from the Eneolythic period (3300-2200 BC) are: stone and metal axes, clay pots, clay weights and ritual objects.

From later prehistoric periods, the Bronze Age (2200-1200 BC) and the Iron Age (1200 BC-I century AD), there are also numerous findings of fragments of clay pots and bronze ornaments.

In the classical period, the road VIA MILITARIS (I century AD) went through this territory. One of the stops on this road was MUTATIO TRANSLITUS, which is supposed to be on the spot of the present town. Fragments of classical buildings witness about the existence of a settlement on this spot, where clay lamps have been found as well as a votive relief of Hecata in its vicinity (II - III century). Two other reliefs also belong to this period, the reliefs of Jupiter and Mitra found on this territory (original marble reliefs of Hecata and Jupiter are in the Public Museum in Nis ).
